Youth Services Library Assistant – Half-Time

The Beaufort Hyde Martin Regional Library is seeking a creative, self-motivated and tech-savvy Youth Services Library Assistant at its Belhaven branch. The Youth Services Library Assistant plans programs and provides services for children birth through eighteen and their families. Belhaven is a waterfront community in Beaufort County and located about 30 minutes from Washington.
Salary: $8.80 per hour, this is a half-time, 28 hour per week position.
Schedule M-Th 9:30 – 5:30; when working every 3rd Saturday you will be scheduled to work half day on Tuesday. (Flexible Schedule – Depending on programming)
Benefits: Prorated Sick and Vacation hours.
Qualifications: Two / Four year college degree is preferred or a combination of education and previous library/public service experience would be considered for this position. Prior customer service experience and experience working with young children in childcare institutions, schools, community agencies, volunteer organizations, church or other group situations is highly preferred.
Duties: The Youth Services Library Assistant plans programs for children and families, including storytimes and afterschool events. The library assistant will also provide reference and reader’s advisory to children and parents. Other job duties include general circulation, shelving, customer service, and promoting programs in the community. The Youth Services Library Assistant works closely with the Youth Services Librarian and the Branch Manager to coordinate the annual summer reading program at the Belhaven Public Library.
Employment Requirement: Employment with BHM is contingent upon passing a background check, a drug test and certified through E-Verify.
