BHM REGIONAL LIBRARY AWARDS SUMMER READING MEDALISTS

The theme of the BHM Library 2022 Summer Reading Program was Oceans of Possibilities.  All 8 branches of the Regional Library system offered the program and participation numbers exceeded past years.

BHM Headquarters in Washington recently held an awards ceremony.  Medals were awarded in two categories: Read to Me and Independent Reading.  Gold, Silver and Bronze Medalists in both categories were awarded prizes in addition to medals.

The prizes were donated by local individuals and businesses.  All medalists received an autographed copy of the book Mommy’s Big Red Monster Truck written by local author Alison Paul Klakowicz; all day miniature golf passes for up to 5 people and snowballs from Josie’s Carnival Treats; 2 passes to the “Shiver Me Timbers” escape room by Diversion Escape Rooms; 2 tickets to an ECU Football Game by ECU; a book bag and koozie from Rich Real Estate; pizza and buffet coupons from Pizza Inn and Summer Reading themed gifts.

In addition to the aforementioned prizes, both Gold Medalists received a two-hour session for up to 6 people from Wake 2 Wake Watersports in Bath.

Independent Reader Medalists are:

Gold – Lida Blaise, age 7, for reading 182 picture and 68 chapter books.

Silver – Reign, age 11, for reading 24 chapter books.

Bronze – Connor, age 6, for reading 60 picture and 9 Chapter books.

Read-To-Me Medalists are:

Gold – Calliope, age 2, for reading 374 picture books.

Silver – Ariana, age 4, for reading 170 picture books.

Bronze – Gigi, age 4, for reading 122 picture books.

Honorable Mentions go to:

Tess, age 6, for helping read to little sister, Gigi, and reading 122 picture books.

Abby, age 4, for reading 69 picture books.

Jonathan, age 6, for reading 66 picture books.
