Library Director, Beaufort Hyde Martin Regional Library

The Beaufort Hyde Martin Regional Library is seeking a forward-thinking and experienced librarian to serve as Library Director. BHM is the oldest regional library system in the state and includes eight rural branches that range from Williamston to Ocracoke Island. The library headquarters is located in Washington, a historic waterfront community about 30 minutes from Greenville.

Salary: $50,000 – $54,000

Duties: The Regional Director is the executive officer responsible for the administration, planning, and daily operation of the three-county library system and its member libraries. The Director’s responsibilities include fiscal management, personnel management, and professional library work. The Director also represents the library to the community and works closely with town and county administrators, elected officials, and other library trustees. The Director reports to the Board of Trustees and supervises the Branch Managers and the Regional Headquarters staff. Illustrative examples of work include creating and presenting the library’s annual budget, hiring and developing staff, managing the library’s print and online collection development, and implementing strategic planning for the library.

Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited or approved equivalent graduate school, North Carolina Library Certification within one year of employment, a minimum of 5 years professional library experience, with at least three years of administrative or supervisory responsibility
